Description:
The Science Laboratory Assistant will work closely with teachers and students to ensure that laboratory activities run smoothly and safely, fostering an engaging learning environment. This position would be well suited to a uni-graduate or school graduate on a gap year.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and set up laboratory equipment and materials for practical classes, demonstrations and examinations, ensuring all necessary resources are available prior to lessons.
- Assist teachers during practical lessons by providing guidance to students on the proper use of lab equipment and safety protocols.
- Maintain cleanliness and organisation within the laboratory, including regular cleaning of equipment and workspaces.
- Conduct routine checks on laboratory supplies, ordering new materials as required to maintain stock levels.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and School Policies, including conducting risk assessments.
- Support the management of hazardous materials by following proper disposal procedures and maintaining safety data sheets.
- Assist with special events e.g. Science Week
- Accompany and assist teachers on excursions
- Examination supervisions
This position is integral to enhancing the hands-on experience for students in their science education, making it essential for candidates to possess strong organisational skills and a keen attention to detail.
Required Skills:
- Understanding of basic scientific concepts being taught in schools.
- Proficiency in using laboratory equipment and instruments.
- Excellent organisational and time management skills.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in conducting experiments.
- Ability to maintain a clean and safe working environment.
- Competence in following safety procedures and protocols.
Preferred Experience:
- Experience working in a science laboratory setting.
- Experience assisting with the preparation of laboratory materials and equipment for experiments.
- Familiarity with safety regulations related to laboratory work.
- Previous involvement in supporting teachers or researchers in a classroom or educational environment.
