About the role
This is an exciting opportunity to work while earning a qualification. This position is Full Time Fixed Term for the duration of the Traineeship based at the Narrandera Shire Council Works Depot.
The Horticulture Trainee will be responsible for effectively working as part of the Open Space Team to deliver a high level of presentation of parks, gardens, reserves, Sportsgrounds, streetscapes and entrances.
Over the course of the traineeship you will develop and apply the skills and competencies acquired and required to be a highly effective workshop team member.
The trainee will complete a Certificate III in Horticulture (or similar) throughout the term of the contract and will be paid in accordance with the Trainee Rates of Pay as per the Local Government (State) Award (these rates are age based).
Duties
- Parks, Reserves and Urban Activities - Under the direction of the Open Space and Recreation Supervisor/Team Leader and working as a team member to undertaking day to day activities necessary to ensure the beautification of Council owned parks, gardens, reserves, trees, streets and other facilities to meet the future needs of Council and the Community. Assist & undertake landscape construction & maintenance of parks, gardens and playgrounds as required.
- Quality Assurance - By ensuring the quality of work and activities is to a high standard whilst ensuring work is carried out safely and identifying areas and processes that could be improved.
- Plant / Equipment - By ensuring the safe and effective use of plant and equipment to construct and maintain Council’s open spaces, parks and gardens etc.
- Learn and apply - Horticultural and personal development skills - By attending and progressing through the compulsory training at TAFE and other courses as directed and applying the skills learn.
- Customer Service - By ensuring quality customer service is provided in a prompt, friendly, helpful and courteous manner and in accordance with Council procedures and requirements. Present a positive image of Council at all times.
- Teamwork - Under the direction of the Open Space and Recreation Supervisor/Team Leader and working as a team member assist in the development of a works program to promote a healthy team environment.
