About the Role:

We have an exciting, newly created 12-month contract position available for a Safety Officer to join the team in Wacol, Brisbane on night shift. This role will work across our two sites in McRoyle Street and Production Street to support the operational cleaning teams.

Responsibilities include:

  • Conduct/partake in investigations for Injuries, Near Misses or Hazards
  • Follow through or drive completion of corrective actions from investigations
  • Consult employees and appropriate mangers when conducting investigations
  • Attendance supervisors/Pre-start or weekly cleaning meetings
  • Participate in HSR meetings as required.
  • Participate or drive any corrective actions raised from any meeting
  • Participate in internal, external and Stakeholder Audits and assist in maintaining site compliance and assist in implementing any changes required
  • Ensure all staff are acting in compliance to operational safety requirements in behaviours
  • Effectively build trust and collaborate with all key stakeholders including management, supervisors, leading hands and staff.
  • Promote safety culture and awareness by being present in the work areas on a daily basis.
  • Complete or partake in training for Risk Assessments for all plant and machinery on site
  • Ensure Risk Assessments & Standard Operating Procedures are regularly reviewed for accuracy
  • Provide notification to Safety coordinators of any changes to operational processes that require standard operating procedures or risk assessments to be amended and partake in those updates.
  • Be a key user for all WHS systems, policies and processes
  • Conduct delivery of Tool Box Talks to support operational teams
  • Conduct and record daily hazard reports in line with any required KPIs in place.
  • Provide first aid, complete incident reports in a support capacity to operational teams.

About you:

  • Formal qualifications in WH&S are required but highly regarded or willingess to obtain qualifiactions at the business expense.
  • Current first aid and CPR qualifications essential or willingness to obtain at the business expense.
  • Knowledge of chemical hazards, chemical storage and safe use of chemical for cleaning highly regarded but not essential.
  • Safety and operational knowledge of food processing and manufacturing highly regarded
  • Proven ability to professionally navigate complex business issues with multiple parties to reach successful outcomes
  • Knowledge of food safety standards such as HACCP and GMP for manufacturing and processing highly regarded but not required
  • Good attention to detail and accuracy
  • Proven ability to meet dead lines and work well in a fast paced environment.
  • Previously demonstrated ability to work both independently and in a team.
  • Good organisational skills with cultural awareness and sensitivity
  • Good judgment and problem solving ability and is capable of understanding the impact of decision making on the business
