Dawson Mine
Steelmaking Coal is an essential ingredient in blast-furnace steel manufacture, producing steel used for critical building and infrastructure around the world.
Dawson Mine is a large and dynamic open cut steelmaking coal mine operation made up of two operating pits - Central and South. It commenced operations in 1961 and is one of the oldest coal mining operations in Central Queensland. Dawson Mine was the first mine in Australia to export coal to Japan in 1961 and was the first mine to introduce draglines into its operation in 1963.
Job Description
The Environmental Coordinator supports all aspects of the environment function for our Dawson Mine. Working together with the environmental team and site operations, the Environmental Coordinator will contribute to driving environmental performance, compliance to corporate and legislative requirements and delivery on the Environment Department Work Plan.
As our Environmental Coordinator you will be responsible for planning, development, and implementation of the site environmental programs with a key focus on land management and rehabilitation.
Key responsibilities will include:
Rehabilitation monitoring and planning.Execution of progressive rehabilitation to achieve targets.Collaborate on innovative projects to enhance sustainability and operational efficiency.Manage a variety of management contractors.Erosion and Sediment control monitoring and implementation.Land disturbance advice and permitting.Disturbance assessment and forecasting for closure planning and legislative approvals.Development and implementation of Environmental Management plans and systems such as land, vegetation, cultural heritage, water, and waste.Support environmental reporting and assurance activities.Being active and available among the general workforce to increase environmental awareness in the field.
The successful applicant will have the ability to manage and supervise contractors and consultants onsite to deliver environmental functions and projects as well as build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders. While reporting to the Sustainable Development Superintendent, the successful applicant will strive to continuously improve the existing environment team including officers, graduate, associate and trainee team members through coaching and mentoring.
Qualifications
Tertiary qualifications in an environmental or equivalent discipline.4+ years extensive and practical environmental management experience in Resources or Mining industry (preferably Coal).Supervisor qualifications – S1,2,3 & G2 (or capable of obtaining).Holds a Rehabilitation Permit (advantageous)Completed Venomous Snake Relocation Course or willing to (advantageous)Experience with Risk Management Processes and contractor management.Demonstrated experience contributing to a team of professionals to deliver against set targets.Experience with and active participation in implementing fauna management permits such as damage mitigation permit.Track record in driving continuous improvement.Experience in developing and implementing solutions to complex environmental issues and facilitating continuous improvement in performance. Ability to understand functionality of business systems and extract relevant data for business purposes.Experience in understanding, interpreting, and analysing relevant environmental data.Experience using ArcGIS (Pro) or similar mapping software.
