The Tasmanian Aboriginal Legal Service (TALS) is looking for a Legal Secretary to support the Family and Child Safety practice, which provides representation to clients on a range of matters.

TALS specialists in providing advice and support in the areas of criminal, civil, and family law to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander persons living in Tasmania, and does so in a culturally appropriate and supportive way.

The role

The Legal Secretary will provide administrative support to a small team of lawyers, who provide a range of legal support and representation to Aboriginal clients on a broad range of matters.

What we are looking for

  • A minimum of 2-years's experience working in an administrative capacity in a professional services organisation. Experience working as a Legal Secretary is preferred.

  • Advanced skills in the use of MS Office, and the capacity to quickly acquire competency in the use of TALS systems.

  • A professional and courteous manner, and the ability to communicate effectively and with empathy with a broad range of people.

  • Sound organisational and time management skills.

  • An understanding of the social issues faced by members of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, and a deep appreciation and respect of their cultural needs.

Requirements

The successful candidate will need to undergo a National Police Check and hold or be able to obtain a registration to work with vulnerable people. You must also have the right to work in Australia.
