Fully paid training with SAPOL will be undertaken at the SA Police Academy at Taperoo, and will combine academic studies in law, policy and procedure with practical and physical training.
Upon successful completion, you will become part of a team who provides frontline services to the community – including mobile patrols to prevent and detect crime, maintain law and order, and undertake an active role in traffic policing and road safety campaigns.

Some of the key tasks you will perform in this role include:
Preventing, detecting and investigating offences in areas such as street offences, family violence, traffic, drugs and alcoholSecuring and examining crime scenes and accidents to locate and obtain evidenceMaintaining public safetyGeneral Patrols in identified areas to minimise the potential for public disturbance and crimeInvestigating accidents, crimes, minor offences and public complaints, gathering evidence and investigating, arresting and interviewing suspectsTesting persons suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs and issuing infringement notices for traffic offencesDirecting and controlling traffic at congested areasAttending at community engagement eventsProviding advice and assistance to victims of crime and their familiesMaintaining records and preparing reportsAttending court
To serve as a South Australian Police Officer, you must be:
18 years or older at the time of applicationAn Australian or New Zealand citizen or permanent residentAble to meet medical, fitness and psychometric requirementsAble to complete operational training and be willing to carry and use operational safety equipment, including a firearm
