About the roleReporting to the Senior Emergency Services Officer (SESO), the Emergency Services Officer (ESO) contributes to the success of Liberty Primary Steel (LPS) through the delivery of a fit for purpose Emergency Response (Fire, Rescue, Medical Response and Asset Protection) capability in line with operational requirements and risk environment at the Whyalla Steelworks site.
The ESO is responsible for assisting with the site emergency response requirements, including responding to site emergencies, undertaking inspections, facilitating resources and implementing processes to ensure compliance and capability for LPS operations. The role also includes supporting the development and delivery of regular emergency response exercises, mentoring of Trainee Emergency Services Officers (TESO), and supporting the development of an Auxiliary Response Group (ARG).
Roster: 14/14 rotating day and night shift rosterLocation: Whyalla. We can support relocation for candidates residing outside of Whyalla
Key Responsibilities:
Immediate response and attendance to emergency calloutsUndertake Emergency Response Team activity in accordance with best practice, prescribed procedures, instructions and plans in a manner that ensures a safe, effective, and controlled responseUndertake training, compliance and reporting activity for a range or emergency response functions in accordance with team plansUndertake communications and asset protection functions are requiredMaintain thorough knowledge of site, including operational areas, roads, buildings, water supply, dangerous substances storage, hazards and emergency response related equipment across siteMaintaining fitness for work in accordance with prescribed requirementsSupport the development of the Auxiliary Response Group and respond to escalated emergency response incidentsMentoring Trainee Emergency Response OfficersEnsure emergency response equipment, vehicles and PPE are maintained in at a high level of operational readinessParticipate in investigations and post-incident debriefs
To be successful, you will possess a passion for health, fitness and emergency response, coupled with a strong work ethic, ability to think on your feet and adapt to a range of different situations.
Essential qualifications/skills:
Certificate III in Emergency Response and RescueMedium/Heavy Rigid Driver’s LicenceCertificate II Security OperationsHLTPA005 – Collect Specimens for drugs of abuse testing or similarStrong verbal and written communication skillsCompetent with MS Office SuiteStrong problem-solving abilities
It will also be beneficial if you have any of the following:
Certificate IV Workplace Trainer and AssessorCertificate IV in Emergency Response CoordinationCertificate III in Public Safety (Firefighting and Emergency Operations)Certificate IV in Health Care (Ambulance)Certificate III Public Safety (Emergency Communication Centre Operations)A working knowledge of industrial/site-based emergency response policies, protocols and procedure
