ACNP is the national peak body for nurse practitioners and advanced practice nurses in Australia. The ACNP is active in advancing nursing practice and improving access to health care.

You will be the leader of a small, professional team in achieving ACNP’s mission: To empower Nurse Practitioners & Advanced Practice Nurses to provide expert care to everyone, everywhere.

About the role:

The CEO is responsible for the delivery of outcomes based on the Board’s strategic direction, representing the College nationally and for the overall leadership and operational management of the College. The CEO will facilitate exceptional communication with members and other stakeholders. The position reports directly to the President.

Responsibilities within this leadership role include:

  • Governance: Ensuring best practice and clear direction to comply with governance requirements
  • Business development in line with the strategic plan targets
  • Organisational policy development and updating
  • Management of program delivery
  • Developing income streams to support members
  • Stakeholder engagement and communication
  • Management of Human Resources requirements
  • Manage and mentor Operations team members
  • Keep abreast of financial performance and drive financial initiatives
  • Strategic support of the Nurse Practitioners workforce plan and other policy and legislative changes required

Key selection criteria (knowledge/skills):

  • Exemplary strategic, operational, financial and people management skills
  • An understanding of the political environment and current issues affecting the health and social services sector, relating to nurse practitioners
  • Financial and business acumen and understanding of preparation of budgets, business plans and funding submissions
  • Ability to analyse data, identify risk, opportunities and issues for the organisation with an ability to respond
  • High level of interpersonal skills with proven track record of managing stakeholder relationships, building and maintaining collaborative partnerships
  • High level understanding of roles and functions within Department of Health and Aged Care and government
  • Development and management of relationships within government
  • Provide board members with high level advice on strategic requirements for legislative and policy change
  • Leadership experience in the health, community or not for profit sectors
  • Implementing and managing a diverse portfolio of programs and projects within a continuous quality improvement framework
  • Exposure to financial initiatives and meeting revenue targets
  • Working closely with and managing board member relationships
  • At least 5 years in a similar or related position
  • Previous governance or leadership experience in the NFP sector

Qualifications and job specific requirements:

  • Previous experience as a registered nurse, senior manager within the health sector or a policy officer
  • Melbourne or Canberra based location (flexible working arrangements and hours) (preferred, not essential)
