The Role:
As a Special Forces Operator in the Army, you’ll be part of a diverse workforce that is always evolving because the strategic environment is ever-changing. Our high-performing teams aren’t made up of those who ‘fit the mould’ – there is no mould. SF Operators come from different backgrounds, possess varied skillsets, and hold an array of interests.
Your Military duties include, but aren’t limited to:
- Operate as a member of a Special Forces team in a multi-team field and urban environment employing Special Forces tactics, techniques and procedures
- Operate and maintain a variety of in-service ADF and Special Forces weapons
- Participate in live fire range practices, including those specific to Special Forces training and operations
- Apply advanced close quarter battle, close quarter fighting and urban fighting techniques applicable to Special Operations
- Insert using basic static line parachute techniques onto land or water
- Negotiate vertical obstacles as a member of a Special Forces team in a multi-team field and urban environment employing SF tactics, techniques and procedures
- Insert or extract using Special Forces airborne roping techniques

Salary
In the Army you'll get paid a good salary from day one regardless of your age, experience or qualifications. Upon commencing training, your starting salary will be approximately $58,528 per annum plus 16.4% superannuation and your pay will increase as you progress through training.
As a Special Forces Operator, once passing selection course, you could earn $103,068 per annum plus generous super. On the successful appointment as a Special Forces Operator with assignment to a regiment, your salary could increase to $132,445 per annum plus generous super.
Eligibility:
For this role, you must:
- Be at least 17 years of age when you enter the ADF
- Have completed an Australian Year 10 education (or equivalent) with passes in English and Mathematics
- Be an Australian citizen. If you are not an Australian Citizen you may still be eligible to join the ADF if you meet certain criteria, please visit the ADF Careers Eligibility Page for more details
- Be reasonably fit and healthy. Keeping fit is a big part of joining the ADF. You’ll need to pass a physical fitness test before you join, but don’t worry, we'll give you tips to help you prepare
- Be able to successfully obtain a security clearance
