The Y Victoria is a leader in facility management for aquatics and leisure. Offering a high-quality health and fitness programs that cater to everyone in community. Y Victoria runs recreation, aquatic, and stadium facilities (in partnership with local government). Managing local government recreation facilities across Australia for more than 30 years.

Active Merri-bek runs a variety of recreational facilities across the City of Merri-bek. The six centres are owned by Merri-bek City Council and managed by the Y Victoria. We work with a number of communities, sports and government bodies to offer opportunities for all our participants.

About the Role

Reporting to the Head of Operations - Recreation this role is the key representative to Council and the local community and will provide leadership and vision for the facility operations.

The Area Manager will have the ability to show consistent performance to ensure positive ongoing management of staff and operations, with an emphasis on quality leadership skills and pro-active experience in all facets of staff leadership and development.

A key responsibility will be to work in partnership with the regional Council's Partner and the local community to provide program and service activities that meet the needs of the community inside as well as outside of the Centres; and thereby demonstrate a strong commitment to engage the community. The Area Manager will be highly skilled in financial management, including budget development & adherence, understanding financial reports, forecasting and implementing action plans dependent on financial results.

This role will be based at our sites in Merri-bek and the remuneration for this role is $136,000 to $147,000 plus super (dependent on experience and qualifications).

About You

The successful applicant will be an efficient, well organised person, showing strong commitment to staff development and training. You will display a high standard of communication skills and attention to detail. You will have demonstrated competence in contract management and working with local governments (or relevant management experience). Ideally you will have five years' experience in aquatic and recreation facility management. Key experience and attributes include:

  • Experience in leading and developing large teams
  • Understanding of the Health and Safety Act and Regulations.
  • Sport and Recreation experience - desirable
  • Facility Operations experience - desirable
  • Passionate about and experienced in leading and coaching teams
  • Approachable, personable with a consistent approach

Mandatory Pre-Requisite Qualifications

  • HLTAID001 or HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation
  • HLTAID003 or HLTAID011 Provide First Aid

Desirable Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualification in Business Management, Fitness, Sport & Recreation (or equivalent)
