Continuing | Part-Time Higher Education Officer Level 5 | $80,405 - $88,737 p.a. pro rata Location: Bedford Park / Kaurna Country View Position Description

About the Role

Working under general supervision from the Senior Manager, Healthcare Simulation and liaising with course coordinators, academic and other laboratory staff, the Technical Officer will be responsible for assisting in a range of health science technical functions, including laboratory activities, to support the programs of the College of Nursing and Health Sciences. The role requires preparing the laboratory environment for Health Sciences and Clinical Skills Workshops, to support the learning requirements of students working in the Health Science Laboratories in accordance with university course requirements.

The incumbent will assist with Work Health & Safety (WHS) within teaching spaces including Work Procedures (SWP), Risk Assessments (RA) and Workplace Inspection (WI) records, equipment, hazardous chemicals management (e.g. CHEMWATCH) and dangerous goods.

About You

With previous experience in a clinical or Health Science laboratory environment being an advantage, you have an understanding, working with new and emerging Science-based laboratory technologies and can successfully demonstrate your knowledge of Work Health and Safety legislation, including risk management.

Your excellent interpersonal and communication and skills, enable you to effectively establish and maintain positive relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, with a customer focus, both locally and at a distance. This includes manufacturers, industry partners and company representatives.

You will also be able to demonstrate:

Proven ability to work autonomously with general supervision and as part of a team. The ability to take initiative in problem solving, prioritise tasks and meet deadlines. High level of attention to detail and organisational skills, with a willingness to work flexibly including shift work.

You will also have completed a tertiary qualification in Science, Chemistry, Biology, Health Science or an equivalent combination of experience or education and training relevant to the position.

Prescribed Conditions for Employment

A valid Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check which is satisfactory to the University will also be required before the successful applicant can commence in this position. It is a requirement of this position that the incumbent maintain a current Working with Children Check which is satisfactory to the University in accordance with the Child Safety (Prohibited Persons) Act 2016 (SA). Staff working in a health care setting are strongly recommended to be fully vaccinated against COVID in line with the SA Health policy or the relevant state where the position is operating.
