Children's Health Queensland provides services from key locations in the Brisbane metropolitan area and works with the 15 other hospital and health services as well as NGOs and charity partners in Queensland to deliver an integrated network of healthcare services and support across the state.

Your Opportunity:

For this position, it is a genuine occupational requirement that it be filled by an Aboriginal person, or a Torres Strait Islander person as set out in Section 7 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 for the purposes contained in Section 25 of that Act.

The role of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Worker is to collaboratively deliver culturally appropriate mental health support within their community and HHS catchment to address the unique social and emotional wellbeing needs arising from historical trauma, cultural disconnection and social determinants of health.

The position of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Worker is to:

  • Provide culturally sensitive social and emotional wellbeing assessments and intervention.
  • Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to provide culturally sensitive care to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people and their families,
  • Participates in the development, planning and evaluation of mental health services with a strong focus on the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander consumers.
  • Co-Leads and participates in supervision and support of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Workers (HWF3, HWF2) facilitating ongoing monitoring and evaluation of professional practice development
  • Collaboratively leads stakeholder engagement to improve service provision and coordination of complex care consumers.
  • Actively participates and contributes in strategic meetings to represent the interests and needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, youth and families.
