Please note that Forensic Science Queensland has recently been through a Machinery of Government change, and as of 1 July 2024, was administratively assigned to the Department of Justice.
In this role, you will be responsible for conducting technical tasks and chemical analyses on a variety of specimens in compliance with FSQ's operating procedures, ensuring quality, safety, and timely service. You will play a vital role in supporting forensic investigations by applying your chemistry expertise and knowledge in forensic science.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct chemical analyses on various samples, ensuring quality and timeliness in accordance with FSQ's procedures.
- Assist in fieldwork, including attending crime scenes or chemical incidents when needed.
- Provide technical support and collaborate with team members to resolve complex issues.
- Manage specimens and evidence in line with FSQ policies and procedures.
- Ensure compliance with NATA/ISO accreditation standards and perform quality control procedures.
- Attend court to provide expert testimony when required.
Essential Requirements:
- A relevant degree in Science with a major emphasis in Chemistry. Relevant post-graduate qualifications in Chemistry or Forensic Science would be desirable.
- Demonstrated knowledge of laboratory techniques as they apply to Analytical Chemistry, including instrumentation and quality assurance.
- Strong decision-making ability and the capacity to solve complex scientific and technical problems independently.
- Ability to work effectively both as a team member and independently to achieve work goals.
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written, to interact effectively with staff, clients, and the court.
- Commitment to quality management, continuous quality improvement, and NATA/ISO accreditation/certification standards.
- Ability to provide expert testimony in a court of law.
