THE ROLE
The School of Arts and Humanities at Edith Cowan University is excited to welcome an enthusiastic and innovative counselling educator to continue to deliver our groundbreaking online Master of Counselling program and associated Graduate Certificate in Counselling. You will join a team of experts in psychology, counselling and criminology, who contribute to our well-established bachelor and graduate programs, as well as collaborating with colleagues in related disciplines in social work, Youth work, and Social Sciences. You will teach and facilitate in our Accelerated Online Master of Counselling program for at least 3 years. Your responsibilities may include developing and overseeing unit content development, teaching units, and supervising sessional academics. If you have the necessary clinical supervision qualifications and experience you may also be involved in supervising students on placement. Additional teaching in counselling may be expected in other counselling or related programs. Through this appointment, you will be able to develop your career as an academic.

The School of Arts and Humanities (SAH) is one of the largest at ECU with many diverse disciplines arranged into three main clusters: Creative Humanities; Psychology, Counselling and Criminology; and Social Sciences, Social Work and Youth Work. In Psychology, Counselling and Criminology, we are well known for our strengths in providing an ecosystem of undergraduate programs to support students and our innovate postgraduate programs to develop outstanding professionals in the areas of Psychology, Counselling and Criminology.
The School operates across three campuses, with more than 100 academic and professional staff, and has a strong online education presence. In 2026, the School will begin to operate its creative humanities program from our outstanding new ECU City Campus while maintaining and expanding operations at ECU’s Joondalup and South-West (regional) campuses. SELECTION CRITERIA
You must have Minimum Masters qualification in counselling or related field with at least 5 years professional experience in a similar role. Applications are also welcome from people completing their PhD. Eligibility for membership in a relevant professional association such as ACA and/or PACFA is essential, as is experience as a clinical supervisor (ACA Clinical Supervision qualification).
You will need to demonstrate, based on past achievement and potential for future development, that you can:
teach effectively with a student-centred approach that fosters engagement, understanding, and academic success; develop and deliver excellent online education through innovative curriculum and pedagogy; engage productively with industry and community partners to advance teaching and placement opportunities; exercise scholarly leadership consistent with your level of appointment, particularly in course coordination and design; and work productively and collegially to achieve the collective goals of our scholarly community in the school and university. Demonstrated excellence in counselling education and curriculum development at tertiary levelYou will be expected to demonstrate personal attributes congruent with the University’s values of integrity, respect, rational inquiry, personal excellence, and courage.

FLEXIBILIITY IN APPOINTMENT
Applicants who are seeking to maintain a practice in Counselling field (if relevant) may be considered for part time appointment (2 to 4 days a week) 0.4 to 0.8 FTE.

This ongoing position attracts a remuneration of $113,918 to $134,596 pa (ALEVB) (pro-rata for part time) plus 17% University superannuation contribution.
