Description:

Professional Standards is responsible for responding to and mitigating employee corrupt conduct and serious misconduct, particularly experienced by those most vulnerable in the families, child protection, seniors and disability services systems, with a goal to contribute to their success in living safely in the community.

The role of the Principal Advisor (Assessments), Professional Standards is to provide expert and authoritative advice to client groups within the department in relation to the identification, assessment and management of corrupt conduct and serious misconduct.

The position also works in partnership with senior management in reducing instances of corrupt conduct and serious misconduct by contributing to relevant sections of the department’s integrity framework and leading on key integrity issues.

The Principal Advisors Key Responsibilities Are

  • Conduct high level, complex assessments, preliminary enquiries and reviews in relation to allegations of suspected corrupt conduct, as defined under the Crime and Corruption Act 2001, as well as serious allegations that fall within the scope of the Public Service Commission's (PSC) Conduct and Performance Excellence (CaPE) framework.
  • Provide day-to-day team leadership to Senior Advisors (Assessments) in relation to general advice about, and the management of, suspected corrupt conduct and serious misconduct matters.
  • Provide professional, authoritative and timely strategic advice and support to Managers and senior management on issues of a sensitive and complex nature relating to instances of corrupt conduct and serious misconduct within the department, thereby enhancing regions' capacity to deal more effectively with matters.
  • Provide effective and timely triage advice in relation to new matters received by the Intake and Assessment team.
  • Effectively manage and identify public interest disclosures submitted under the Public Interest Disclosure Act 2010 in accordance with legislation, standards and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Support the Manager and Director, Professional Standards in partnership with the Queensland Ombudsman to ensure that the department has an effective management program in place for public interest disclosures and satisfies legislative requirements under the Public Interest Disclosure Act 2010.
  • Actively maintain Professional Standards' records, cases and file management systems.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with all relevant external stakeholders, such as the Queensland Police Services, the Crime and Corruption Commission, the Queensland Ombudsman and the Public Service Commission.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with all internal stakeholders, including Regional Directors and Regional Executive Directors, and


colleagues within Professional Standards.

  • Contribute to the creation and maintenance of Professional Standards' internal processes (including training documents, work instructions, and improvements to the case management system).
  • Promote and maintain a culture of continuous improvement and knowledge sharing.
  • Prepare briefs and other internal correspondence as required.
