Our services include advocacy, education, partnerships, training, consultancy and holistic person-centred care programs, based on a philosophy of understanding the lived experiences of those living with dementia. We provide CHSP, HCP and NDIS packages and day/overnight respite in our four homes based in Perth, Mandurah and Albany. Position Summary:

Alzheimer's WA is seeking an experienced Work Health and Safety Specialist to develop, implement, and oversee health and safety systems and policies. Your responsibilities will include providing expert WHS advice to management, reviewing and improving policies, and ensuring compliance with legislative standards. Promoting a strong safety culture, you will engage staff, deliver WHS training, and manage injury and workers’ compensation processes. Through continuous improvement and proactive strategies, you will contribute to maintaining a safe, sustainable environment for all employees.

Responsibilities

Duties of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide WHS expertise and advice to management to ensure compliance and promote a strong safety culture.
  • Coordinate WHS strategies and plans across all AWA sites.
  • Review and update WHS systems, policies, and procedures to assist in managing potential risks.
  • Analyse work environments to identify and prevent hazards.
  • Investigate non-compliance incidents and implement corrective actions.
  • Coach management and promote a strong safety culture.
  • Engage staff and communicate effective WHS practices.
  • Plan and deliver WHS training programs based on organizational needs.
  • Manage injury and workers’ compensation processes with relevant stakeholders.
  • Monitor claims and incidents to create preventive WHS programs.
  • Develop relationships with external WHS organizations for best practices.

Selection Criteria:

  • Relevant qualification in Work Health and Safety (e.g., Degree or Diploma in WHS).
  • Strong knowledge of WHS legislation, aged care standards, and risk management practices.
  • At least 5 years of demonstrated experience in a health and safety role with exposure to risk and incident management (ideally in the health sector).
  • Demonstrated success in the development of effective safety systems that promote workplace health and safety whilst supporting the achievement of organisational deliverables.
  • Strong problem-solving skills to suggest necessary changes to unsafe work conditions
  • Excellent organisational skills for all documentation related to workplace compliance and WHS program to educate employees
  • Proficiency in using MS Office, WHS reporting and incident management systems.
