Recycled Goods Store Operator, you will play an important role in ensuring the safe, effective, and efficient delivery of services to the Hume community. Primarily, you will undertake the day-to-day service delivery at Council’s recycled goods store(s), through activities including, but not limited to, customer service, financial transactions, resource recovery, store presentation, and stock management.
What you’ll be doing:
- Operate Council’s Recycled Goods Store(s) in accordance with operational, environmental and safety legislation, policies, procedures and guidelines.
- Conduct daily opening and closing procedures, ensuring the Recycled Goods Store is open for business during its usual business hours.
- Prepare, organise and display stock for sale. This may include inspection, minor repairs and cleaning on items.
- Maintain visual merchandising and ensure interior and exterior of the store is well maintained, clean and free of clutter.
- Provide professional customer service to a diverse mix of residential and commercial customers, maintaining a friendly atmosphere and making every interaction positive.
- Effectively resolve customer queries and complaints, providing consistently accurate and timely guidance, information, and assistance to customers.
- Maintain records, including but not limited to, sales transactions, cash register, banking transactions and timesheet records.
- Complete and submit reports as requested, including but not limited to; daily and monthly transaction reports, stocktakes, customer trends, safety inspection checklists, and other operational matters.
- Understanding of second-hand goods store, waste management, recycling, and/or resource recovery centre/transfer station operations.
- Skills to understand the requirements of the Occupational Health and Safety Act 2004 and regulations, and ability to follow and apply health and safety requirements and procedures within operational environments.
- Knowledge and skills applicable to identification of recovery of recyclable and recoverable materials from the incoming waste streams.
- Well-developed customer service and communication skills, including the ability to communicate clearly in various mediums, with people from a variety of backgrounds.
- Requires the ability to gain co-operation and assistance from members of the public and other employees in the activities relating to Recycled Goods Store and Resource Recovery Centre operations.
- Understanding of visual merchandising and retail store operations.
- Licence and experience in operating a Forklift, Front end Loader, and/or Excavator (desired, but not essential).
