Primary objective
The position assists in the management of a small team focused on undertaking research, modelling policy options and
development of revenue laws and associated grant and incentive schemes, reviewing administrative decisions and managing
litigation.
Context statement
The Territory Revenue Office administers and provides advice on the Territory’s tax and royalty laws and related grant and
incentive schemes, delivers education programs to professional industry groups, ensures appropriate policies and systems
are in place to promote voluntary compliance, undertakes compliance and audit activities, and undertakes research and
develops policy and legislation.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Analyse and resolve complex revenue matters in a timely manner.
2. Assist in the management and training of staff.
3. Co-ordinate and deliver stakeholder education programs.
4. Assist in the development and implementation of the work unit’s business plans, policies and practices.
5. Engage with stakeholders on technically complex or sensitive revenue related issues.
6. Build and maintain stakeholder relationships and represent the unit on national working groups.
7. Monitor emerging business practices and assist in the provision of advice to senior management relating to revenue
policy.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Highly developed conceptual, analytical and research skills and experience in preparing high level reports and
submissions.
2. Demonstrated ability to provide comprehensive, quality advice within tight timeframes.
3. Interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills of a high order.
4. Strong ability and experience in the development, interpretation and application of legislation and policies.
5. Demonstrated supervisory and organisational skills, including the ability to plan, program and coordinate projects to
meet deadlines and achieve outcomes.
6. High degree of integrity and understanding of the requirements of dealing with confidential information.
Desirable
1. Tertiary or higher qualifications in law, commerce, accounting or a related discipline.
2. Sound knowledge of contemporary business practices.
