The Trustee for WK Family Trust is seeking an applicant for the position of full-time Animal Husbandry Technician in Ngunnawal ACT 2913 Australia
Summary of Position
Assisting with managing breeding programs, proper nutrition of livestock, and adherence to health and
safety and legislation as well as implementing sustainable land-use practices.
Duties
To assist with the following:
· Manage the feeding program for springing cows.
. Inspecting and monitoring growth rates against targets.
Nutrient Management Planning
. Arranging supply of vaccines, mineral supplements and other appropriate animal husbandry.
Organise mating program for rising 2 year olds
. Record all treatments to meet quality assurance requirements and farm policy.
. Select cows for Artificial Insemination, assist with semen selection. Mark inseminated cows and
keep insemination records
. Apply heat detection aids, identify, record, mark and draft cows on heat, segregate and prepare for
insemination.
. Responsible for maintaining cattle identification and records relating to calving dates, joining and
heat detection.
. Identify and correct unsafe and unacceptable milking practices. Train others in correct milk
harvesting technique.
. Identify and isolate from milk supply those cows whose milk is unfit for human consumption
. Conduct research and facilitate animal husbandry programs
· Examine the operation and service of water supply, irrigation and waste systems.
· Soil testing- Determine soil fertiliser program using soil fertility and production data.
. Organise for the purchase, delivery and spreading of all fertilisers.
. Communications with dairy industry organisations, suppliers, consultants and contractors.
Criteria
. At least a Diploma or 3 years relevant working experience
. Patient, Hardworking, Resourceful, Trustworthy, Loyal, Efficient
. Understanding and passion for the dairy industry
. Demonstrate a broad and coherent body of knowledge of milk source and composition
. In depth understanding of the safety and quality factors that determine the acceptability of the
dairy products by consumers.
.Good communication skills in both verbal and written.
A remuneration package between $73,150.00 – $85,000.00 per year plus superannuation.
