2100km North-West of Brisbane Normanton is a small community situated on the banks of the Norman River in the Gulf of Carpentaria. Fishing and prawning industries are the mainstay of the area, along with tourism.
The Traditional Owners of the Normanton area are the Gkuthaarn, Kukatj, and Kurtijar peoples.
About the role
This trainee position is responsible for providing, under supervision, a range of health services that assists in the prevention, early detection and management of health problems and to work with the community, to address health issues in partnership with community and other government departments.
- Join the team at the Normanton Hospital and provide clinical, patient centred-care which leads to positive patient outcomes.
- Support the facilitation and provision of quality and fiscally responsible services which are consistent with contemporary standards and evidence-informed practice.
- Be part of a team that actively contributes to patient safety by following policies, procedures and protocols of the North West Hospital and Health Service.
- Support continued improvement of health services by always participating in quality improvement opportunities.
- Excel in patient safety by active contribution to a framework of sound clinical governance.
Requirements
- To perform this role, it is essential that the person who holds the position be an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person. It is therefore a genuine occupational requirement under section 25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 that applicants are Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islanders.
- Applicants will be employed (temporary full-time) at the HWF1 classification for a maximum of 18 months, during which time they will be required to complete a Certificate IV in Aboriginal Torres Strait Islander Primary Health care (practice).
- C Class Motor Vehicle Licence.
- Pre-employment screening will be conducted for the successful applicant, including Criminal History checks.
- Potential applicants are advised that the Commission for Children and Young People and Child Guardian Act 2000 requires Queensland Health to seek a ‘working with children check, from the Commission for Children and Young People and Child Guardian prior to appointment to this position.
- This is a VPD risk role and may require evidence of vaccination or immunity to: Hepatitis A/B, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Pertussis, and Tuberculosis.
- A period of probation may apply.
