Northern Health are seeking applications from motivated and suitably experienced Head of Unit to join the Plastic Surgery Unit in the Surgery Department.

About Northern Health:

Northern Health is the major provider of acute, maternity, sub-acute, mental health, specialist, community and home-based services in Melbourne’s rapidly growing outer north.

Services are provided through our five main campuses:

Northern Hospital Epping, Broadmeadows Hospital, Bundoora Centre, Craigieburn Centre, and Kilmore District Hospital. In addition, Mental Health Services are provided at Epping, Broadmeadows, Jacana, Preston, Mill Park and Coburg.

About the Role:

The Head of Unit Plastic Surgery provides the clinical, professional and academic leadership for the unit including active involvement in the effective management and operations of the unit. Reporting to the Medical Divisional Director, the Head of Unit role is pivotal in ensuring Northern Health achieves its Strategic and Clinical Service Plans for the unit.

It is expected that the Head of Unit Plastic Surgery will also perform clinical duties as a Plastic Surgeon and participate in Plastics On call.

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • No restrictions or conditions on your Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) registration.
  • Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons or equivalent
  • Clinical experience applicable to the field of Plastic Surgery within a large, complex healthcare organisation
  • Effective leadership and managerial skills, with proven track record of leading a clinical unit
  • Outstanding communication skills, including well-developed conflict resolution skills
  • Demonstrated flexibility in problem solving and the capability to develop and sustain highly collaborative relationships with others/other teams.
  • An understanding of Clinical incident management, M&M and the importance of implementation of recommendation that addresses the system issues
  • The ability to recruit, coach, mentor, and performance develop medical staff, to develop the capabilities of the team to undertake changing roles, responsibilities and to provide for succession within the unit
  • The ability to work as an effective member of a multidisciplinary clinical team
  • Act as an effective role model and promote a culture and supporting practices that reflect the organisational values through demonstrated behaviours and interactions with patients and other staff members
  • Extensive experience in the support and supervision of senior and junior medical staff
