Support Engineer - Remote

Streem Pty Ltd
Sydney Full-day Full-time

Description:

Are you a meticulous problem-solver with a knack for debugging and a passion for ensuring software quality? Do you thrive on keeping complex systems running smoothly and delighting users by resolving their issues?

Streem is revolutionising media intelligence, and we're searching for a dedicated Support Engineer to join our engineering team in Sydney. You'll be a crucial part of ensuring our platform – which processes a massive, diverse firehose of content (text, audio, video, images, PDFs!) – remains reliable, performant, and delivers exceptional value to our users. If you enjoy diving deep into technical challenges, improving system stability, and making a direct impact on user satisfaction, read on!

Your Mission, Should You Choose to Accept It:

You'll be on the front lines of quality and stability, working closely with our development team to maintain and enhance the Streem platform. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Become a Technical Detective: Investigate, triage, diagnose, and resolve bugs and technical issues reported by users or flagged by our internal monitoring systems. Prioritise effectively and ensure timely resolution.
  • Bolster Our Defenses: Actively contribute to improving and maintaining our automated test suites (using tools like RSpec). Help increase test coverage to catch regressions early and ensure the team can deploy with confidence.
  • Be a Helpful Guide: Occasionally connect directly with clients to understand their technical challenges, provide clear explanations, troubleshoot effectively, and ensure their issues are fully resolved with empathy and professionalism.
  • Collaborate for Solutions: Work closely with the broader engineering team to understand the intricacies of our Ruby on Rails backend, VueJS frontend, and GCP infrastructure, facilitating efficient bug fixes and preventative measures.
  • Identify Improvement Opportunities: Use your insights from troubleshooting to suggest improvements to our platform, tooling, or processes to enhance stability and reduce recurring issues.

Who We're Looking For:

You are detail-oriented, persistent, and enjoy the satisfaction of solving tricky problems.

  • Experience: You have proven experience in a technical role such as Support Engineering, QA Engineering, or Software Development, with a strong focus on troubleshooting, debugging, and problem-solving within web applications.
  • Technical Aptitude: You possess a solid understanding of web application fundamentals (backend/frontend interaction, APIs, databases).
  • Debugging Skills: You have experience diagnosing issues in complex codebases. Familiarity with Ruby on Rails and JavaScript (VueJS or similar frameworks) is highly advantageous for navigating and debugging our stack.
  • Testing Mindset: You understand the importance of automated testing. Experience reading or contributing to tests using frameworks (like RSpec, Capybara, Jest) is a definite plus.
  • Communication: You have strong communication skills (both written and verbal), with the ability to clearly explain technical issues to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Empathy & Patience: You can patiently work through user-reported issues and communicate effectively during the resolution process.

Bonus Points (Nice-to-haves, not dealbreakers!):

  • Experience reading logs and using monitoring tools.
  • Familiarity with SQL and database interaction.
  • Experience with Git or other version control systems.
  • Knowledge of cloud platforms like GCP.
  • An interest in News & Media, Data Science, or NLP.

Why Streem Isn't Just Another Tech Job:

We believe in empowering our team and creating an environment where you can do your best work and grow.

  • Critical Impact: Play a vital role in ensuring the reliability and quality of a platform used by major organisations. Your work directly impacts user satisfaction and trust.
  • Amazing Team: Join a supportive and dedicated group of 170+ professionals who are passionate about what they do.
  • Growth Mindset: We invest in you! Access a $3,000 annual training budget (plus salary sacrifice options) to keep your skills sharp.
  • Fantastic Office & Perks: Work from our modern Surry Hills office (3 mins from Central Station) with end-of-trip facilities, enjoy delicious lunches prepared by our in-house chef 4 days a week, and celebrate success with performance-based reward activities.
  • Wellbeing Matters: Benefit from 20 weeks' Paid Parental Leave, take extra leave days, including your birthday and dedicated mental health days. Access our Employee Assistance Program (EAP) for confidential support.

Ready to become a key player in maintaining the quality and stability of a cutting-edge media intelligence platform? Apply now and let's chat about how you can make your mark at Streem!
