Primary objective
Provide an effective Emergency Department reception and admission service responsive to the needs of the patient and relevant
areas of Top End Health Service.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide a point of contact for patients and visitors to the Emergency Department.
2. Provide an effective and efficient administrative support service to the Emergency Department such as restocking medical
forms, stationary, photocopying, faxing, scan and emailing records within the hospital as directed by medical and nursing staff.
3. Maintain accurate maintenance of Top End Health Service medical records system in a timely manner and maintain
confidentiality of patient information.
4. Assist in maximising Hospital revenue by satisfying the requirements of Cross Border charging and identifying compensable
and ineligible patients.
5. Interview patients and update demography information in accordance with interview procedures.
6. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken
in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Skill in the use of equipment, computers and medical software packages with accurate data entry for patient safety and
reporting purposes.
2. Demonstrated ability to interact and effectively communicate with patients, their families and people from diverse cultures.
This may include patients with English as a second language and patients from remote Aboriginal communities.
3. Demonstrated experience working in a high-pressure role in a fast-paced environment.
4. Demonstrated high degree of honesty and integrity with a proven ability to exercise confidentiality, initiative and discretion to
provide a client focused service of excellence.
5. High level of interpersonal, communication skills to effectively liaise with colleagues, a diverse range of internal, external,
government and non-government agencies to provide information to those co-ordinating care for patients.
6. Ability to work a 24/7 roster across two campuses.
7. Demonstrated ability to work autonomously to process admissions and action directions received from Team Leader and
Clinicians in a busy service environment.
8. Ability to operate effectively in a team, contributing positively to team operations and working relationships.
Desirable
1. Experience in Medical reception duties, preferably in Emergency Department Administration.
