LGM Industries is a solution-focused provider of Structural, Mechanical and Piping (SMP) services, specialising in fixed plant maintenance and capital projects for the resource and energy sectors in Western Australia. Our team is made up of experienced tradespeople supported by a dedicated team of project managers, engineers, and supervisors.

The Position

As the Safety Advisor, you will play a pivotal role across multiple teams at our sites, initially located in Greenbushes, acting as the vital link between management and operations. You will ensure the company’s and client’s safety policies and procedures are implemented and in compliance with current legislation. You are expected to provide support to our site management in a positive manner, be a good communicator and collaborator.

We are looking for a candidate with a passion for safety who is aligned to our culture of looking after our people as well as being focused on ensuring we are adopting safe systems of work across our sites. The successful candidate will be required to work together with our site management adding value and support in ensuring a safe and successful outcome across various sites and projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Risk Assessments and Hazard Identification: Conduct regular risk assessments to evaluate workplace safety. Identify potential hazards within the workplace environment and develop effective strategies to mitigate the risks identified.
  • Procedure Implementation: Ensure procedures are implemented consistently across the organisation and incorporate best practices to enhance health and safety standards.
  • Training and Education: Ensure all staff members are well-informed about safety protocols and maintain accurate records of training and assist in the development and implementation of training packages.
  • Incident Investigation: Investigate workplace accidents and incidents thoroughly. Conduct root cause analyses to understand contributing factors and prepare detailed reports with recommendations for preventive measures.
  • Inspections and Audits: Regularly inspect the workplace for health and safety compliance. Conduct internal audits to verify adherence to safety protocols and address any non-compliance issues promptly.
  • Emergency Preparedness: Assist in the development of emergency response plans, organise and conduct emergency drills to prepare staff, and ensure all employees are trained in emergency procedures.
  • Health and Safety Reporting: Maintain accurate records of incidents and inspections as well as analyse safety performance metrics to identify trends.
  • Advisory Role: Provide expert advice on health and safety matters, stay informed about new regulations and industry standards, and recommend updates to policies and procedures, as necessary.
  • Promoting a Safety Culture: Encourage a proactive approach to health and safety among employees, promote safety awareness through campaigns and initiatives, and foster a culture where safety is a top priority.
  • Liaison: Coordinate with other departments to address safety concerns, collaborate with external agencies and regulatory bodies, and represent the company in health and safety meetings and conferences where applicable.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Diploma or Cert IV in Work Health and Safety (WHS) or substantial experience in HSE implementation.
  • Minimum of two years relevant experience in a similar role, ideally within the structural mechanical and piping (SMP) environment.
  • Valid Driver's Licence ‘C' Class (mandatory).
  • Construction White Card (mandatory).
  • Working at heights and confined space (within two years)
  • HRWL - DG, RB, LF (desirable)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
