The RoleThe Financial Controller holds a pivotal role in driving financial strategy, operations, and compliance. Reporting directly to the Executive Team and Board, this role combines technical expertise, leadership, and strategic planning.
Key ResponsibilitiesFinance Operations & Reporting:
- Prepare and oversee Statutory Accounts, Year-End Accounts, Management Reports, Board/Committee Reports, Budgets, Forecasts, and Cashflows.
- Manage financial forecasting, treasury operations, group reporting, intercompany agreements, acquittals, and government compliance documentation.
- Oversee accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, and banking processes.
- Ensure compliance with taxation matters including GST, BAS, and FBT.
Systems & Transformation:
- Drive scalable financial workflows that reduce manual handling and increase operational efficiency.
- Maintain integrity of financial data and controls while championing continuous improvement.
- Partner with senior leadership to deliver financial modeling and scenario analysis for organisational growth initiatives.
Leadership:
- Develop and mentor a high-performing finance team, focusing on succession planning and alignment to business priorities.
- Foster a culture of continuous learning, collaboration, and innovation.
- Role model organisational values and ensure alignment with ethical and professional standards.
Governance & Controls:
- Ensure adherence to accounting standards and frameworks, managing risks effectively.
- Act as the primary liaison with auditors, banks, financiers, and regulatory bodies.
- Regularly review departmental policies and procedures to maintain compliance and effectiveness.
To succeed in this role:
- Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting/Finance plus CPA or CA certification.
- Experience: Minimum 5 years as a Financial Controller or Finance Manager within medium to large organisations.
- Skills: Proven expertise in accounting standards, financial systems, and taxation legislation for charities. Exceptional decision-making, analytical, communication, and presentation skills.
- Technology: Proficient in Dynamics 365 business central, Microsoft Office, and financial modeling tools.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Demonstrated success in influencing internal and external stakeholders.
Ideally, the candidate would also:
- Have experience with Dynamics 365 Business Central.
- Be knowledgeable in the design of financial systems or reporting structures for growing businesses.
- Be skilled at negotiating and reviewing contractual terms.
