About the role

This role contributes to the success of the City by developing, implementing, delivering and evaluating a range of programs, activities and policies to support the Council to respond effectively to key social issues with a focus on multicultural communities, citizenship and social inclusion.

Role accountabilities include:

  • Build and maintain strong networks with communities, service providers, businesses, relevant government departments, industry bodies and internal council departments for the purpose of furthering the City of Hobart’s community development objectives.
  • Coordinate the development and implementation of the City of Hobart Multicultural Strategy, Welcoming Cities initiatives and International Student Ambassador Program.
  • Coordinate and deliver the City of Hobart Citizenship Ceremonies including the Australia Day ceremony.
  • Maintain a current and broad understanding of issues and concerns of the Hobart community with a particular focus on cultural diversity and social inclusion
  • Support the delivery of the City for All: Community Inclusion and Equity Framework and facilitate the arrangements for the meetings of the Community Sector Reference Group.
  • Deliver high quality and timely presentations and written products, including strategy documents, reports, policy papers, press releases, speech notes, briefings and correspondence.

About you

You will have Tertiary or VET qualifications in a relevant discipline and /or experience in a community development, public policy or project management role and knowledge and understanding of contemporary community development and social inclusion policy and practice with ability to apply this knowledge to the needs and aspirations of the Hobart community in relation to multicultural and social inclusion issues in Tasmania.
