GEGAC is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation based in Bairnsdale Victoria. Consisting of about 160 staff, GEGAC is a Not-for-Profit organisation that delivers holistic services in the areas of Primary Health, Social Services, Elders & Disability and Early Childhood Education.
GEGAC advocates for the self-determination of the Aboriginal community by prioritising services that enhance social, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing, with culture at the heart of everything we do.
Position Purpose
The purpose of this position is to support, and facilitate culturally safe healing spaces for Aboriginal women, young women and children. This may include identifying opportunities to support connections with family, culture and community. This position will be instrumental in ensuring that Aboriginal women who present to GEGAC are receiving timely, culturally safe services that will enhance their social and emotional wellbeing consistently and meaningfully. This position will work with women in individual case management and in groups in accordance with the SEWB way of knowing, being and doing.
Key Selection Criteria
• A sound knowledge and understanding of Intergenerational challenges faced by Aboriginal families.
• A sound knowledge of the social and emotional wellbeing framework.
• Case management skills, including assessment and counselling skills.
• Sound communication, writing and computer skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively and cooperatively as part of a team.
• Demonstrate knowledge of cultural respect and apply this to practice.
• Experience working with the Aboriginal women experiencing SEWB issues.
Qualifications and Registrations Requirement (Essential or Desirable).
• Driver licence. ESSENTIAL
• Cert IV in Community Services, AOD or related field or willingness to work towards qualifications within a negotiated timeframe. ESSENTIAL
• A satisfactory Working with Children Check and Fit2Work Police Check ESSENTIAL
• A person of Aboriginal / Torres Strait Islander background DESIRABLE
• Proof of COVID-19 vaccinated to align with GEGAC requirements ESSENTIAL
