The Role
The Defence Preparedness Branch is seeking an experienced ICT Sustainment Manager to oversee the transition and sustainment of a new IT Application. As one of CDF's top priorities, Defence Preparedness Branch is expanding to meet the requirement to assure the Defence Enterprise's ability to meet Government expectations.
As part of this expansion, Defence Preparedness Branch is building its ICT capacity and requires experienced technical staff to bolster their ability to capture and present relevant data. The role will require a combination of technical acumen, agile development capabilities, and sustainment management skills.
The role will see successful candidates leading a team to deliver the following:
- Development and implementation sustainment processes for IT applications to ensure operational readiness and ongoing system support.
- Coordination and management of change control processes for requests, ensuring compliance with Defence's change management standards.
- Management of ICT platforms and framework expertise, focusing on the Argus platform, tenancy agreements, and web application maintenance and integration with backend SQL databases.
- SQL Server management, including ETL processes, ensuring effective data handling and adherence to Defence's data management and security protocols.
- Implement and manage monitoring protocols to ensure system stability, using proactive monitoring and scheduled maintenance to address performance issues.
- Optimise system performance through process improvements and insights gathered from user acceptance testing.
- Security & Compliance: Enforce security and compliance protocols in collaboration with the platform team, with a focus on SQL Server security and web application protection in line with Defence's security framework.
- Supervise and mentor a small team, overseeing technical development and ensuring effective support workflows.

Defence Preparedness Branch is responsible for leading and coordinating the preparedness function across the entire Defence Enterprise. Branch ensures that Defence is able to balance its obligation to meet Government expectations of the ADF in its current state, and generate an integrated focused force to address Australia's most significant threats going forward.
Defence Preparedness has been identified as a high-priority team by the Chief of the Defence Force, and is expanding to be able to properly capture the complexities that contribute to measuring the preparedness of the Defence Enterprise.

Our Ideal Candidate
- Proven Experience: Demonstrated experience in ICT system sustainment, including business process analysis, agile project management, and software testing within complex environments.
- Technical Expertise: Strong understanding of platform and framework management, including expertise in SQL Server, DevOps practices, and web application maintenance.
- Stakeholder Communication: Excellent communication skills, with a track record of building stakeholder trust and supporting structured change management during system transitions.
- Documentation & Knowledge Management: Demonstrated experience in maintaining comprehensive documentation and managing knowledge repositories to ensure business continuity.
- Tertiary qualification in Engineering or Information Technology.
- Familiarity with the Argus platform and experience in Defence or government ICT environments.
- Certification in Agile or DevOps practices, SSAS, or equivalent practical experience.
