Role Details
The Department for Child Protection is currently seeking a Senior Practitioner to join the Far North Team on a full-time ongoing basis.
The role is responsible for:
- Enhancing Social Worker/Case Management capacity and principles of social work practice by providing advice to DCP staff, mentoring and researching new techniques and methodologies.
- Undertaking regular reviews of cases to ensure that effective plans are in place and appropriate case management is occurring.
- Providing a specialist opinion or recommendation to support Youth Court processes and act as a witness in court proceedings in addition to assisting with the preparation of case conferences, assessments and reports.
- Contributing to the implementation of continuous quality improvement and policy development initiatives.
About You
We are looking for a confident individual who has the ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships with people both within government, non-government sector and community. You will have the ability to provide professional advice on social work/case management matters through coaching and mentoring of peers and other external professionals.
To be successful you will have knowledge of social work legislative framework including acts, regulations and social work/case management theories and methodologies that guide social work practice principles.
You will also have the ability to analyse complex problems and resolve matters that demonstrate reflective practice.

The Department for Child Protection (DCP) plays a key role in the protection of children, young people and their families within South Australia. The department provides support to vulnerable children and young people to be safe, strong and connected.
The Region
The Far North Office covers a large area, encompassing Coober Pedy, Oodnadatta and the APY lands. It is a diverse office consisting of two Child Protection Teams who work on a FIFO roster of 8 days on, 6 days off. The Far North Office has a strong, workplace culture of supporting one another, and maintains good partnerships with other Government and non-Government agencies in town. This collaborative way of working helps the team build strong connections with the community, including the local Aboriginal Communities it serves.

Special Conditions
Essential Qualifications
AHP: A degree level qualification in Social Work which gives eligibility for full membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers.
PO: Appropriate degree qualification in Community Services, Social Sciences, Human Services, Health or related field.
Persons of Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent, who have the appropriate background and skills but do not have the essential qualification, may apply for and be engaged/assigned to the role of Social Worker and will be entitled to apply for any Allied Health Professional roles requiring a qualification in Social Work within the Department for Child Protection (DCP).
