New Para Unit:

With funding from the Australian Institute of Sport, Paralympics Australia and the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, WAIS is establishing a Para Unit to identify and support para athletes in WA.

About the role:

WAIS currently has an exciting opportunity for Athlete Wellbeing and Engagement Advisors! As an Athlete Wellbeing and Engagement Advisor in the Para Unit, your role is to support non-categorisedpara athletes in developing life skills for success in high-performance sport and life beyond. This position will ensure para athletes successfully transition into, through and out of high-performance sport, upholding a Win Well ethos.

About you:

  • You have an undergraduate qualification, or equivalent industry certifications in a relevant field such as education, career development, social work, counselling, financial planning, and sports management.
  • You have at least 3 years' experience in a related position, including:
    • Developing and implementing a range of para athlete focused personal development, education, and career interventions.
    • Managing case load and triage processes, ensuring appropriate care and referral.
    • Providing tailored support to para athletes during difficult times for example injury, non-selection, relocation or incidents.
    • Collaboration with multidisciplinary teams (within the Community, Allied Health organisations or High Performance system) to support para athlete wellbeing.
  • You have contemporary knowledge of athlete wellbeing issues within Australia’s high performance sport system, with an understanding of talent identification and the long-term athlete development model for para-sport.
  • You have a strong understanding of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) and how para athletes can use it to support their goals.
  • A team player with a commitment to kindness, integrity, and fostering a supportive environment.
  • You have or are able to attain a Working with Children Check and National Police Criminal History check.
  • Applicants will need to have the right to work in Australia to be eligible for this role.

This position is full time, 37.5 hours per week, maximum term until June 2026 with the potential to extend.
