  • Part-time (0.2 FTE) fixed term until December 2026.

  • Base salary of $122,830 - $145,858 (pro rata) + 17% superannuation plus Full Clinical Loading

About the opportunity

The School of Rural Health (SRH) has been delivering long term rural placements for The University of Sydney year 3 and 4 medical students in Orange and Dubbo for over 15 years. In 2022, The University of Sydney commenced delivery of its four-year graduate entry Doctor of Medicine (MD) Program in two streams: a Metropolitan stream based on the University’s Camperdown campus in Sydney, and a Dubbo stream based at the School of Rural Health in Dubbo.

We have a position available for a Lecturer – Medicine Block Coordinator who will undertake a range of duties related to the coordination of the Medicine Block including implementation of the curriculum as well as teaching and learning activities for the Sydney Medical School Doctor of Medicine (MD) Program students on long-term rural clinical placement. This position will have a supervision and leadership role in the Program in Orange including coordination and management of academic staff and tutors within the portfolio.

This position is located at Orange. Limited travel between rural sites is a requirement of this position and therefore a driver’s license is required. Some out-of-hours work is also required of this role. Home to close to 70,000 people, the Orange Region offers a unique blend of seasonal landscapes, accessible transport, abundant natural resources and some of the best regional food and wine in Australia. The city of Orange, with a population of 41,000 residents is a regional hub of medical and health expertise outside Sydney and employs a substantial number of people in the education and mining industries. Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • contribute to the delivery of the Sydney Medical School Doctor of Medicine (MD) Program curriculum in Orange in their field of expertise.

  • undertake independent teaching and coaching of students within a simulated or real clinical setting

  • actively contributes to the research, education, and administrative activities of the discipline/School/Faculty.

  • design and deliver quality educational units of study and experiences that support student needs and meet curriculum requirements.

  • be involved in the design and delivery of multi-disciplinary work-integrated learning units and content including application of experience and expertise in clinical practice to educational design and delivery.

  • fulfil Governance and Compliance requirements of the Sydney Medical Program Doctor of Medicine and the Rural Health Multidisciplinary Training Program Parameters.

  • develop pragmatic teaching resources which reflect contemporary and innovative clinical practices with particular emphasis on rural practice.

  • develop and suggest innovative practices in clinical education with a view to improving educational outcomes.

About you

  • Bachelor of Medicine (BMed)/Doctor of Medicine (MD) /Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from a recognised tertiary institution.

  • Recognition as a Fellow of the Australasian College of Physicians or equivalent as recognised by Australian Health Professional Regulation Agency (AHPRA).

  • Registered with AHPRA or equivalent professional bodies (where relevant).

  • significant experience working in a clinical setting and proven ability to apply expertise and knowledge to inform pedagogical practice

  • deep and broad experience in teaching and learning in a tertiary environment, as evidenced by participation in team teaching within an established program and experience in teaching in a variety of settings

  • demonstrated success in designing, implementing, and evaluating teaching and learning initiatives with a clinical focus

  • a developing network of relationships with key academic, clinical, and professional institutions such as the Western NSW Local Health District, partners, and stakeholders

  • demonstrable understanding of and commitment to rural health

  • a broad knowledge of the Australian Healthcare system

  • current Working with Children Check and National Police Check

  • current driver’s license.

  • compliance with the Public Health (COVID-19 Vaccination of Health Care Workers) Order 2021 is a requirement of this position.
