MCV
The Magistrates' Court of Victoria (MCV) is a jurisdiction within the Court Services Victoria statutory authority and has a long history of providing justice for the people of Victoria in metropolitan and regional courts across the state. The Court determines in excess of 300,000 cases per annum at 51 venues, equating to approximately 90 percent of all cases that come before Victorian courts each year. The Court aims to be an innovative, accessible, and responsive court that provides quality services to the Victorian community.
About the Role
Registrars of the Magistrates' Court perform a wide range of administrative tasks throughout the Court's registries in Victoria. These may include in-court (bench clerk) duties, client-contact (telephone and counter) enquiries, and back-of-office administrative responsibilities.
Registrars are required to liaise with a number of stakeholders including the judiciary, Victoria Police, Office of Public Prosecutions, legal practitioners, various court user groups as well as members of the public. It is essential that the person possesses excellent interpersonal and both verbal and written communication skills.
Key accountabilities include:
* As a Registrar of the Magistrates' Court, performing appropriate legal, administrative and quasi-judicial functions relating to the day-to-day and ongoing operations of the Court, under limited direction from the Registrar of the court.
* Providing information and authoritative advice on court and tribunal procedures and practices, including applying legislation relating to the Magistrates' Court of Victoria, to relevant stakeholders including legal practitioners, police and corrections officers, government agencies, clients and the general public.
* Liaising with the judiciary, magistracy, external organisations, groups and individuals that interface with the court.
* Operating relevant computer systems, including case-management systems such as Courtlink, CMS and other technologies.
* Assist with the direction, supervision and training of staff.
About You
* Certificate IV in Government (Court Services) or equivalent.
* Demonstrated knowledge of legislation, practices, policies and procedures applicable to Victorian Courts and Tribunals.
This role has significant technical components as well as team leadership and people-management, including the supervision of registry staff and responsibility for their professional development and performance feedback.
