Established in 1979 by the Ballarat Aboriginal community in the Ballarat district, BADAC’s vision is to be the strongest voice and presence in the Ballarat area, supporting and respecting their people, enhancing our community, growing their culture and honouring their heritage. BADAC is the Aboriginal Community-Controlled Organisation (ACCO) for the Ballarat and District area, covering 4 local government areas (LGAs). The organisation is extremely proud of the contribution and support they have provided the local Aboriginal community over the past 40 years delivering a comprehensive range of health, social, welfare and community development programs to local Aboriginal people.

The Opportunity
We currently have an opportunity for a Maternal & Child Health (MCH) Nurse who is passionate to make a difference on a Permanent Full Time Basis!
Reporting to the Clinical Nurse Team-Leader, the role of the Maternal & Child Health (M&CH) Nurse is:
Key Responsibilities
-
Provision of a quality Maternal & Child Health care that is trauma aware and culturally informed.
-
Assess, monitor and promote the health, growth, development and behaviour of children 0 – 4 years of age.
-
Use of CIDIS & Best-Practice Client Management Systems / Clinical Software for documenting age and stage monitoring and interventions and data as advised. BADAC may also require additional notations within Medical Director on occasions.

Support families through new evidence-based activities for each of the ten age and stage visits with additional emphasis on health promotion across a range of domains that address both maternal and child health and wellbeing - As per Maternal & Child Health Service Practice Guidelines [2009] [Reissued June 2019].

Assess health and well-being of children and provide support, advice and information to families relevant to individual family circumstances through the provision of key ages and stages visits, additional consultations and community strengthening activities.

Resource parents to meet the needs of their children and themselves and to develop confidence and independence in their parenting roles

To support families gaining access to M&CH services.

Deliver high quality M&CH Nursing services according to BADAC’s requirements (vision and mission), priorities and budget, relevant Acts, nursing processes and guidelines of relevant authorities.

Attendance to staff meetings.

Attend Line Management Supervision
-
Commitment of Professional Development.
-
Commitment and contribution towards National Key Performance Indicators (nKPI) for Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care.
-
BADAC recognises the need for ongoing education and training to maintain competencies in areas relevant to scope of practice and specific needs of Aboriginal Health.
-
Maintains skills in Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Emergencies on an annual basis.
Key Selection Criteria
To be considered and successful in this application, you will possess the following:
-
A sound knowledge of Aboriginal culture and ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds and complex needs
-
Current registration as a Division I Registered Nurse .
-
Successful completion of Working with Children’s Check.
-
Demonstrated experience in M&CH, desirable to have experience working with patients that have high needs and vulnerability.
-
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to clearly communicate with a diverse range of families, including parents and children, other professionals, and internal / external stakeholders.
-
Ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team that is flexible and creative. Be willing to work alongside clients and families, be non-judgmental and display a culturally sensitive and safe attitude.

Demonstrated experience in childhood assessment and development.
-
Ability to manage workload.
-
Ability to complete tasks in an effective timeline
-
Demonstrated capacity to provide an effective M&CH service according to State & Federal Government guidelines, policies, and accepted nursing practice standards.

Maintain awareness of current and new legislation to ensure compliance with all statutory and regulatory obligations.
-
Excellent computer skills and the ability to maintain data and statistics accurately.
-
Sound knowledge of OH&S policies and standards of practice.
