The Role
Joint Proof & Experimental Unit (JPEU) provides dynamic, static and environmental test capability for the ADF. JPEU is seeking a ‘Data Process Operator’ within the Data Acquisition Section (DAS). DAS is collects a variety of test data on multiple weapon systems. This requires the deployment and operation of test equipment, the processing and reporting of data produced, and the development of novel test methods.
Key Duties:
- Mange a technical team to complete set-up for test.
- Facilitate processing of data for customers.
- Develop systems for review and improvement.
- Identify capability gaps and identify methods and equipment to ensure technical capability.
- Facilitate the training and development of the team.
- Ensure method meet quality standards.
- Ensure data is stored and backed up for future retrieval and auditing.
Alongside the APS 6 remuneration, the Data Acquisition Operator receives an additional Special Defence Locality Assistance allowance of approximately $309.85 per fortnight.
Candidates may be approved to commence with a Baseline clearance pending approval of Negative Vetting level 1 clearance as the condition of engagement.
About our Team
DAS is an essential part of the Proof and Experimental Establishment that collects data from tests on Explosive Ordinance (EO) and associated equipment. DAS is multidisciplinary team that collects data on pressure, velocity, imagery, and precise time and location. Utilising a variety of specialized and bespoke equipment. From this DAS creates data sets which are refined and post processed ready for the customer.
DAS works with the trials team at the Join Proof and Experimental Unit (JPEU) to set-up and design tests utilising support from our in-house workshops and instrumentation team. Deployment and operation of this specialized equipment gives our operators both a breadth and depth of knowledge.
DAS has a unique role as a technical team, which both maintains and deploys equipment while operating and processing the data produced. DAS plays a pivotal role with JPEU and aids to ensure Australia’s EO is safe for operation.

The right person for this role will show the flexibility to respond to the changing context and shifting priorities of JPEU, to achieve business outcomes. In this role, the individual will provide support to a geographically dispersed team.
