The Environmental Regulation Division is responsible for striking a balance between protecting the Territory’s environment and enabling development. The Division ensures compliance with the Territory’s environmental laws by applying best practice regulatory principles across the regulatory spectrum, from assessment through to compliance and enforcement. As the Director Environmental Operations, your primary objective is to lead the Environmental Regulation team to ensure the efficient and effective administration of the Waste Management and Pollution Control Act, Water Act, Marine Pollution Act and Environment Protection Act.

Working collaboratively with the leadership team you will assist in delivering the priorities of the Division and ensuring a consistent and risk-based approach to environmental regulation in the NT. Applying your extensive knowledge in the administration and management of environmental legislation and expertise in environmental regulation, you will provide strategic and succinct advice to the Executive Director, Chief Executive Officer, Minister for Environment and key stakeholders including media, industry and community members to achieve positive environmental outcomes.

To be successful you require demonstrated knowledge and experience in the administration and management of environmental legislation, proven leadership with the ability to develop, coach and motivate staff, and a track record of delivering organisational priorities. Superior interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to undertake high level negotiation to achieve effective business outcomes and sound judgement in dealing with complex issues is essential.
