Primary objective
In consultation with and under the guidance of the Technical Manager, ensure the operation of all technical aspects of
theatrical presentations across the Precinct, particularly in respect of the technical operations of the Araluen Arts Centre
Theatre.
Context statement
Primarily this position entails work in the Araluen Arts Centre Theatre as a skilled Theatre Technician working in the areas
of staging (mechanist), lighting, audio and audio-visual.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Under the supervision of the Technical Manager coordinate, operate and maintain all technical aspects of theatrical
presentations across the Precinct.
2. Provide technical requirements and support to Araluen’s function areas including galleries, outdoor and offsite areas.
3. Under the supervision of the Technical Manager, liaise and consult with theatre hirers and other clients to ensure
technical and staging requirements are understood and realistically delivered.
4. Participate in rehearsals and performances and assist with the “bump-in/out” of events and presentations.
5. Provide on-the-job training for casual theatre staff, and members of the community as necessary.
6. In conjunction with the Technical Manager, ensure that all theatrical equipment is in effective working order, and perform
hands-on technical work in the areas of staging, audio and AV presentation, lighting design and implementation.
7. In consultation with the Technical Manager, in regards to all equipment and facilities, ensure safety standards, procedures
and good housekeeping standards are maintained to professional industry standards.
8. Demonstrate an ability to work cooperatively as a member of a team.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Sound knowledge of, and experience in implementing, all aspects of technical theatre, including the operation of audio,
audio-visual, lighting, cinema and mechanical equipment, including a counterweighted flying system.
2. Ability to independently organise and prioritise workload and to exercise technical judgement with limited supervision.
3. Knowledge of WH&S requirements and procedures, particularly in respect of theatre operations.
4. Willingness to work outside normal working hours on a regular basis.
5. Demonstrated experience in the use of information technology and software relative to the industry
6. An ability to interact effectively and cooperatively with all theatre clients and ensure Work Health Safety compliance.
Desirable
1. Current NT Drivers Licence.
2. Possession of current Riggers qualification, and Elevated Work Platform certification.
3. An interest in the performing arts.
