Primary objective
Provide administrative and project support for initiatives under the Northern Territory Aboriginal Tourism Strategy 2020-
2030 (Strategy).
Context statement
Tourism NT is responsible for marketing the NT as a desirable visitor destination domestically and internationally and for the
sustainable growth of the NT’s tourism industry. Within the Industry and Community Development team, the Aboriginal
Tourism Development area’s primary role is to support the NT’s Aboriginal Tourism Committee and the Strategy’s mission
to develop a sustainable Aboriginal tourism sector.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Project management support including the co-ordination, development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of
grants and initiatives.
2. Provide administrative and operational support including procurement and travel arrangements to ensure timely and
effective service delivery.
3. Provide secretariat support to the Northern Territory Aboriginal Tourism Committee.
4. Develop and maintain effective professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders to achieve
organisational objectives.
5. Working in collaboration with government and non-government organisations assist Aboriginal tourism businesses with
appropriate information and avenues for business and tourism product development support opportunities.
6. Manage information, undertake research and the timely production of project proposals, meeting minutes, reports and
briefs.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Proven effective administrative and project management support experience with the ability to manage multiple
priorities, work under pressure, priorities task and manage time effectively to meet deadlines.
2. Demonstrated effective, professional and culturally appropriate communication skills, including the ability to prepare
written correspondence with accuracy and attention to detail.
3. Proven experience maintaining effective professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders and with
Aboriginal people with a consistent application of tact and diplomacy.
4. Experience working independently and as part of a team, use initiative, adapt to change and be self-motivated.
5. Understanding of Traditional Owner groups, Land Councils, Aboriginal communities and peak bodies across the NT.
6. Current NT drivers licence or ability to obtain.
Desirable
1. Demonstrated knowledge of tourism in the Northern Territory including stakeholders, global context, challenges and
strengths.
