Are you a strategic financial leader ready to make a meaningful impact? We’re looking for a Financial Controller to lead and oversee all aspects of our financial operations with precision, integrity, and vision at North Sydney Council.
The role
An opportunity exists for an accomplished finance professional to join our Financial Services team. This critical leadership role is responsible for overseeing the full spectrum of financial operations and ensuring the integrity, accuracy, and compliance of financial reporting across Council.
Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Financial Controller will lead key functions including transaction services, management accounting, statutory and internal financial reporting, asset accounting, and taxation. The successful candidate will be instrumental in maintaining strong financial controls, delivering insightful analysis, and supporting strategic financial planning that support accountability and transparency.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Oversee end-to-end financial operations, ensuring compliance and accuracy.
- Prepare and present high-quality financial statements, budgets, and forecasts.
- Implement and maintain effective financial policies, controls, and procedures.
- Provide detailed financial analysis to inform decision-making and strategic planning.
- Support the CFO and Executive Leadership Team in achieving Council’s financial and operational objectives.
- Ensure efficient service delivery and resource management within the financial services section.
- Promote a high-performance culture through effective leadership, communication, and collaboration.
The person
You are a commercially astute finance professional with a strong background in financial management within a complex, multifaceted organisation, combined with the demonstrated experience in leading successful teams.
This is a strategic leadership position offering the opportunity to influence organisational direction, drive operational excellence, and contribute to long-term growth and sustainability across North Sydney Council.
