The Urea Panel Operator is responsible for overseeing and controlling the operation of the urea synthesis, granulation and solid handling process within the fertilizer plant and coordinate while ship loading. This includes monitoring the process through control panels, troubleshooting issues, ensuring the system operates efficiently, and ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in a urea granulation fertilizer plant, demonstrating a strong understanding of plant operations, equipment, and safety protocols. Should possess excellent communication and coordination skills.
Job responsibilities:
Panel Operation:
• Operate and monitor the urea and granulation plant control panel, ensuring safe and efficient operation of machinery and equipment.
• Maintain optimal process parameters (e.g., temperature, pressure, flow rates) to ensure consistent quality and quantity of urea granules.
• Adjust control settings and equipment as needed to maintain production goals and minimize waste.
Process Monitoring:
• Continuously monitor and assess the operation of urea synthesis, granulation , ammonia storage and solid handling units.
• Track and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) related to plant performance, including yield, quality, and efficiency.
• Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve operational issues such as system malfunctions, product inconsistencies, and process deviations.
Troubleshooting and Maintenance:
• Assist with the troubleshooting and maintenance of panel-controlled equipment, including pumps, conveyors, reactors, and cooling systems.
• Close coordination with field operators to ensure safe and efficient operation
• Work closely with maintenance teams to address mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation issues.
Safety and Compliance:
• Adhere to all safety procedures and regulations, ensuring safe handling of chemicals, high-pressure systems, and other hazardous materials.
• Participate in safety drills, audits, and investigations related to plant operations.
• Maintain compliance with environmental standards, ensuring proper emissions control and waste disposal procedures.
• Should be willing participate in the Site Response Team (SRT)
Reporting and Documentation:
• Record and report daily operational data, including production rates, material usage, and any issues encountered during shifts.
• Complete shift logs, MOS/POS logs, incident reports, and other necessary documentation to maintain operational integrity and regulatory compliance.
• Provide detailed shift handover reports to ensure smooth transitions and continued operational efficiency.
Requirements:
Education: Technical certifications or a Degree/Diploma in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, or related fields. Familiarity and experience with Snamprogetti urea process and Thyssenkrupp granulation is a plus.
Experience: Minimum of 10 years of hands-on experience as a panel operator in a urea synthesis and granulation.
Skills:
• Strong knowledge of urea synthesis, granulation, and fertilizer production processes.
• Proficiency in operating control panels and process monitoring systems.
• Ability to troubleshoot and resolve process, mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation issues.
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to interpret process data and adjust operations accordingly.
• Excellent communication and co-ordination skills, both verbal and written.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a focus on safety and efficiency.
• Rotational shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Exposure to World Scale operational Hazardous plant safety standards.

Located in Karratha , the plant will use feedstock from Woodside under a 20-year supply agreement and has a 20-year offtake agreement with Incitec Pivot. Urea is a safe, non-toxic fertiliser vital for boosting global agricultural productivity. The project will support the fertiliser supply chain, add value to Australian resources, and create around 2,000 jobs , including 200 permanent roles , boosting the local economy.
