EC Engineers is a family owned and locally operated Engineering firm on the Gold Coast. We specialise in all building related matters including forensic investigations, scope of works and engineering designs. Our clients range from repair builders, insurance companies to private engineering matters across Australia.
Due to continued expansion and growth, we are looking for a Forensic/Structural Engineer to join our team. We are flexible across all levels of experience. The position is full-time commencing asap. What is forensic structural engineering?
- Forensic structural engineering is a multi-disciplinary field that involves the investigation of various structures and analysing how they are designed, how they are constructed, and how they fail.
- Forensic structural engineering is a part of professional engineering practice that intersects all disciplines of engineering and develops highly valuable skills in investigation, critical and logical thinking, and report writing.
- Forensic structural engineers are trained to logically investigate and analyse evidence of structural failures after natural disasters, accidents, and long-term deterioration, and present an unbiased assessment of what the underlying cause failure may have been.
What will you work on?
With a focus on residential construction, you will be working on:
- Storm damage investigations
- Earthquake and flood damage investigations
- Landslip investigations
- Foundation movement investigations
- Roof repairs
- Retaining wall repairs

What will you do?
The successful candidates will be responsible for assisting with the forensic assessment, investigation and reporting of defects and building damage across a variety of building types, including residential and commercial structures. Duties will include:
- Conducting site inspections on building related matters to identify cause of building failures by applying engineering principles and practices in accordance with codes and industry standards
- Analysing failures in building structures and advise on remedial procedures
- Preparing technical reports outlining the cause of failure, recommendations and scope of works
- Providing detailed scope of works and cost estimate
- Assisting with Engineering designs as required
- Maintaining and developing strong relationships with clients
This role will involve local, interstate and remote travel, so you will also get the chance to see Australia whilst getting paid!
Who are we looking for?
We are looking for candidates with:
- A Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (preferably structural engineering)
- Excellent written communication skills including the ability to prepare technical reports, including identifying causes of failure and providing Scope of Works
- Ability to problem solve, research and think on your feet
- Strong verbal communication skills with the ability to relate and communicate to people at all levels
- A valid Drivers’ Licence
- Experience and/or knowledge of the Building Code of Australia and relevant Australian Standards highly regarded
- Experience and/or knowledge of construction industry highly regarded
