From Adelaide – South Australia, Northern Territory Freight Services (NTFS) provides unique and extensive road, rail, refrigerated, and general freight services with connecting links to all Australian Capital Cities. The exciting opportunity:

Lead from the front in Berrimah! Reporting to the State Manager, you’ll oversee a team of 20 - 25 drivers, yard & administration staff.

This role will be suited to an experienced and professional Operations Manager with a background in road/rail and an understanding of the complexities for FMCG & perishable freights.

Responsibilities

  • Overseeing daily transport operations including fleet utilisation, driver scheduling and customer delivery performance

  • Working closely with customers to build strong partnerships and delivery on service expectations

  • Ensuring chain of responsibility (CoR), fatigue management and HSE standards are always met.

  • Ensure all transport and logistics operations are conducted safely, efficiently, compliantly, and profitably while embedding a culture of care and compliance across the team.

  • Uphold the company’s standard for customer service, including professional appearance, behaviour, and exceptional customer interaction.

  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness, organisation, and safety across all operational areas, including fleet, yard, warehouse, depot, and office ensuring well maintained environment at all times.

You’ll thrive in this role if you bring:

  • Proven leadership experience in transport, logistics, or supply chain operations

  • Strong understanding of compliance, CoR, and heavy vehicle regulations

  • Understanding of LTL / LCL freight operations and efficiencies

  • A results driver decision maker who applies critical thinking to support and deliver key operational outcomes.

  • Proven ability in financial analysis, cost management and KPI reporting to driver informed decision-making and operational efficiency.

  • Ability to drive cost effecting customer service through proactive client engagement and regular service reviews

  • Building strong working relationships with internal and external management to drive operational success.

  • Excellent people skills – you know how to engage, coach, and develop your team

  • You have the ability to assess challenges quickly, develop practical solutions and make decisions to ensure smooth and efficient operations.

  • You are an exceptional written and verbal communicator, motivator, and problem solver with a knack for innovation and a passion for making things better.
