IT Infrastructure Engineer (OpenShift Administrator) – Federal Government ContractLocation: Canberra, Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, or Adelaide (Open, Not Restricted To Work In Canberra).
Contract Term: Initial 12 months + potential extensions (up to 24 months)
Security Clearance: Must have a NV1 clearance (we can help you obtain that at your cost)

Rate: Up To $195 Per Hour (including super).
Local Workforce Hire has been invited to tender for a Federal Government contract with Services Australia and is seeking an experienced and highly capable IT Infrastructure Engineer with deep expertise in OpenShift and Kubernetes to support the agency's growing digital transformation agenda.

What We’re Looking For We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior OpenShift Administrator who can navigate the monitoring, installation, configuration, administration, troubleshooting, and maintenance of on-premises Red Hat OpenShift clusters , particularly within the context of government services .
The ideal candidate will:
- Provide advanced technical support and troubleshoot complex issues.
- Automate repeatable processes to ensure a stable, secure, and efficient OpenShift environment .
- Lead cloud migration or expansion projects involving containerisation.
- Mentor junior engineers and support knowledge transfer across the team.
- Work collaboratively in a complex, multi-disciplinary, and fast-paced environment , ensuring that infrastructure services align with business and operational goals.
- Deploy, manage, and troubleshoot OpenShift (or Kubernetes) clusters in enterprise environments.
- Support containerised application deployment using CI/CD pipelines and GitOps methods.
- Lead cluster upgrades, resource management, and performance tuning within OpenShift.
- Automate infrastructure with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Ansible, Terraform, or Helm.
- Ensure environment security through access controls, vulnerability scanning, and compliance with ISM and Essential 8 standards.
- Provide leadership and mentoring to less experienced technical staff.
- Collaborate with architects, developers, and operations teams to align solutions with agency goals.
- Maintain detailed documentation of systems and infrastructure best practices.
- Bachelor’s degree in IT or related discipline, or 5+ years of experience in large-scale ICT environments, with 3+ years managing Kubernetes/OpenShift clusters.
- Extensive knowledge of Kubernetes administration, including networking, security, storage, and automation.
- Experience working in government or highly regulated environments with demonstrable compliance to ISM and Essential 8 standards.
- Red Hat Certified Specialist in OpenShift Administration (or willingness to obtain certification within 6 months).
- Cloud platform certifications (AWS, Azure, GCP), Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA), or a willingness to obtain them.
- Proficiency with tools and languages such as Linux, Git, CI/CD pipelines, Ansible, Python, Bash, and Helm.
- Hybrid model: Work from one of the nominated offices for the first 6 weeks (Canberra, Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide), followed by flexible work-from-home options.
- Candidates must have a NV1 Security Clearance . (Support with clearance application can be provided by Local Workforce Hire.)
