The Guardian and Gannawarra Times are an independent family-owned publisher and is the leading player in a diverse media market in the growing region of North West Victoria and South West NSW.
We are a vibrant and forward-thinking publisher dedicated to delivering high-quality content to our readers both in print and online. The Gurdian print edition is published twice per week (Tuesday and Friday), the Gannawarra Times once a week (Tuesday) and online content is updated on a daily basis.
Our publication serves as a vital source of news, information, and entertainment for the vibrant community of Swan Hill, Kerang & Cohuna and their surrounding regions. With a focus on innovation and integrity, we aim to stay at the forefront of the ever-evolving media landscape.
Role Overview:
As editor, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the editorial direction and content strategy of our publications across both print and digital platforms. You will lead a talented team of writers, guiding them to produce compelling and engaging content that resonates with our diverse audience. This role requires a creative thinker with exceptional editorial skills, a keen eye for detail, and a deep understanding of audience preferences in both print and online formats.
Key Responsibilities:
Help to develop and implement editorial strategies to enhance the quality and relevance of our print and online publications.
Oversee the day-to-day operations of the editorial team, including assigning tasks, providing feedback, and ensuring deadlines are met.
Collaborate with journalists, photographers, and graphic designers to produce captivating content across various topics, including news, sport, features, and lifestyle articles.
Manage the editorial calendar and coordinate content production schedules to maintain consistency and meet audience demands.
Stay abreast of industry trends and best practices in print and digital media, identifying opportunities for innovation and growth.
Uphold editorial standards of accuracy, fairness, and ethics, maintaining the integrity and credibility of our publications.
Requirements:
Degree in journalism, communications, or a related field.
Proven experience in editorial roles, with a strong background in both print and online media.
Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills, with a meticulous attention to detail.
Demonstrated leadership abilities and the ability to inspire and motivate a team.
Proficiency in content management systems, digital publishing tools, and social media platforms.
An understanding of audience engagement metrics and analytics, with the ability to leverage data to inform editorial decisions.
You must be extremely well organised, knowledgeable on all aspects of media law and have the ability to deal at the highest level with both internal staff, civic leaders and the general public.
