The Role

The Child Safe and Gender Equality Officer position is a key role in supporting a diverse workforce whilst promoting a culture that embraces a safe and inclusive work environment at the City of Ballarat. Primarily, the role is to administer the implementation of the Child Safe Policy, working towards improving the child safe practices at the City of Ballarat by developing, implementing and continually improving child safe practices, and continuing to embed the principles of child safety into the City of Ballarat’s culture and business practices. You will work across the whole of council and build on previous work in relation to the implementation of the Gender Equality Action Plan and support the Gender, Diversity and Inclusion Committee.

About You

The successful candidate will have:

  • Relevant degree, diploma or demonstrated work experience in the broad fields of community services including social work, social sciences, community development, human resource management, psychology, education, public health, public policy r related discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing, implementing, monitoring, evaluating health and wellbeing projects.
  • Demonstrated understanding of risk and protective factors related to childhood and adolescent development with an understanding of Child Safe and Reportable Conduct legislation.
  • Experience in a wide range of software applications, including a variety of Windows based applications, databases and spread sheets. National Criminal History Check
  • Working with Children Check

Key Selection Criteria

Selection will be based on the following selection criteria; however, reference will also be made to other listed skills, knowledge and attributes as required in the Position Description:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications or practical experience in supporting and contributing to a child safe workforce and/or experience in diversity and inclusion initiatives
  • Capacity to work collaboratively and build partnerships with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders, including children and young people?
  • Demonstrated effective project management and administrative skills
  • Demonstrated ability to be flexible, inclusive and work with a facilitative approach to engagement and consultation.
  • Well-developed verbal and written communication skills with the ability to produce correspondence, reports, plans and presentations to communicate key messages.
  • Ability to plan, co-ordinate and prioritise a demanding workload, along with demonstrated resourcefulness and initiative to complete objectives within given timelines.
  • Qualifications and experience as listed above.
  • Demonstrated ability to champion, model and promote the corporate values.
