Full Time – Social & Emotional Wellbeing Worker

The position as Social and Emotional Wellbeing Worker (SEWB) is primarily responsible for working with Aboriginal clients, families and community with a holistic approach to support their social and emotional wellbeing. The SEWB worker will provide holistic case management support to Aboriginal clients and will closely liaise with the Yoorana Gunya clinical team to ensure clients’ needs are met and appropriate referral are completed for services.

The successful applicant will have the opportunity to work within a high performing, multi-disciplinary team with support available from General Practitioners, Counsellors, Psychologists and other highly skilled team members of Yoorana Gunya. This position will provide the successful applicant with the opportunity to develop professionally and be trained whilst working on the job. Yoorana Gunya prides itself on upskilling and developing workers for their organisation’s needs.


Qualifications/Experience

  • Minimum Certificate IV in Aboriginal Health, Community Services or Mental Health or willingness to obtain.

  • Previous experience is preferred working within Aboriginal health, community support, mental health, or child protection field however is not vital.

  • Demonstrated knowledge, skills and experience in providing case management and support to clients.

  • Knowledge of relevant community organisations and resources.

Essential Requirements

  • Demonstrated high level ability to provide case management to clients to ensure clients overall social and emotional wellbeing is being supported.

  • Knowledge of community health, public health and Aboriginal health.

  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders within the community.

  • Ability to advocate for clients’ needs and support clients to enhance their Social and Emotional Wellbeing.

  • Provide clients with support and advocacy services to Aboriginal families in crisis and those who may be at risk or exposed to mental health issues.

  • Accept, review and action client referrals within a timely and efficient manner. Ensure safety risks are completed for clients and follow up is completed as per client’s needs.

  • Have a clear understanding of the legal aspects associated with mental health and ensure clients are supported throughout the process of recovery/healing journey.

  • Enter all relevant information into the appropriate clinic database accurately and consistently.

  • Must maintain strict confidentiality and have an understanding of mandatory reporting, relevant laws and regulations pertaining to supporting clients.

  • Strong understanding of mental health, health needs and the challenges or issues that clients may face.

  • Have the ability to explore and enhance client’s strengths including developing practical ways for clients to improve their overall wellbeing.

  • Demonstrated ability to work flexibly within tight time schedules and in accordance with variable workload demands.

  • Develop, implement, and facilitate relevant programs to provide appropriate education to clients on Social and Emotional Wellbeing

  • Develop evaluations for programs and services to ensure appropriate feedback is provided from community and organisations.

  • Well-developed written and communication skills, with demonstrated ability to work within various organisations and community groups specifically Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

  • Ability to work within a multi-disciplinary, knowledgeable team and attend at risk meetings for client's wellbeing with clinicians and other SEWB workers.

  • Complete reports and evaluations as per funding KPI's and program objectives.

  • Have an understanding of mandatory reporting, legislation and other regulatory standards or willingness to learn.

  • Ability to work out and about within the community with clients as required.

  • Must have a current valid Driver’s license.

  • Must have a National Police Check and Working with Children Check Clearance.

Salary Packaging options are available as a Not-For-Profit Organisation.

Up to $15,860 tax effective salary sacrifice is offered.

Remuneration: Salary range is $66,000 to $85,000 dependent on qualifications and expertise.

Paid Study Leave: Employees are entitled to Paid Study Leave for approved courses relevant to their role.

Paid Parental Leave: Paid Parental Leave is available for permanent employees.
