This position is based at the Toowoomba office, with travel that may be required to Roma and Goondiwindi surrounding areas. In this role, you will work closely with the Department of Youth Justice, directly supporting young people and their families. As a Caseworker, you will be supporting young people aged 11 to 18 who are either at risk of becoming involved in the criminal justice system or entrenched in the system, courts and are at risk of remand in custody. The role involves helping them build skills, stay engaged with school or work and connect with community support. You’ll meet with young people and their families, connect them with local services and provide support that fits their needs. Your responsibilities will also include:
- Providing casework support for young people and families;
- Assisting the delivery of capacity-building supports for young people to increase their knowledge, practice skills and build a sense of self;
- Helping young people access education, training, employment and housing;
- Supporting families to improve their relationships and stability;
- Attending court or providing help in crisis situations;
- Working with schools, service providers and other organisations;
- Helping run and improve the day-to-day work of the youth program; and
- Assisting Youth Caseworkers who hold case management responsibilities to implement any requirements for young people and their families in accordance with case management plans and support services.
To succeed in this role, you will ideally have a qualification in Criminology, Social Work, Community Services, or a related field, and/or possess experience working with young people facing complex circumstances. You will also:
- Be calm, reliable and able to deal with challenging situations;
- Have good communication skills and the ability to work with families and other professionals;
- A current Queensland driver’s licence; and
- A valid Working with Children Check (Blue Card), or willingness to get one.
