About the Role: Do you have a green thumb and a passion for maintaining beautiful parks and open spaces? Mackay Regional Council is looking for a dedicated Parks Maintenance Officer to join our team. If you enjoy working outdoors and have experience in horticulture and park maintenance, this is the perfect role for you!
Key Responsibilities:
- Garden Guru: Prepare and maintain garden areas using horticultural practices like pruning, mowing, weeding, and tree maintenance.
- Inspector Extraordinaire: Conduct regular visual inspections of park infrastructure, including footpaths, gardens, playground equipment, and seating.
- Maintenance Maven: Clean, maintain, and repair park and garden infrastructure.
- Equipment Expert: Operate and maintain various plant and equipment used in horticulture and park maintenance.
- Tech-Savvy: Use technological devices for communication, data collection, and work order systems.
- Project Participant: Complete scheduled works and contribute to specific projects.
- Customer Service Star: Meet customer and stakeholderrequirements while maintaining Council's image and reputation.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Must-Haves:
- General Construction Induction Training.
- QLD "C" Class Drivers Licence or interstate equivalent.
- Medium Rigid (MR) Licence.
- Experience in public gardens, landscaping, and general labouring.
- Experience in operating and maintaining equipment associated with park maintenance.
- Experience in using herbicides and pesticides.
- Desirable:
- Certificate II in Arboriculture or Horticulture.
- Operate and maintain chainsaws - Level 1.
- Operate a Pole Saw.
- Certificate III in Irrigation.
- ACDC Commercial Operators Licence.
- Chemical Accreditation (AQF3).
Skills and Knowledge:
- Horticulture Hero: Sound knowledge of horticultural principles and practices.
- Legislation Literate: Knowledge of relevant legislation, Australian Standards, and building codes.
- Communication Pro: Excellent verbal and non-verbal communication skills.
- Customer Service Star: Ability to deliver quality service with attention to detail.
- Team Player: Ability to work autonomously and in a team environment.
- Record Keeper: Ability to maintain accurate records as per Australian Standards.
