About Our Role
- Team Leadership opportunity within food production
- 4:4 roster - 12.2 hour shifts (2 x day / 2 x night / 4 x off)
- Located in the beachside town of Ulverstone, NW Tasmania
An opportunity exists with Simplot Global Food in the permanent, full-time position of Production Team Leader at our Ulverstone manufacturing facility. Reporting to the Process Area Manager, the Production Team Leader is accountable for delivering the production plan for their line/area in addition to responsibility for leading the team to achieve high levels of safety, quality, and efficiencies whilst supporting and developing team member skillsets.
Simplot Ulverstone has a proud history in the local community dating back to 1942, and our location on the banks of the Leven River is ideally situated close to the rich, fertile soils where our potatoes are grown. We process around 300,000 tonnes of potatoes from 165 Tasmanian growers each year, whilst employing over 450 people. Site capabilities / products include fries (coated & uncoated + different cuts), sweet potato fries, potato gems, and hash browns in addition to 8 x automated packing lines. Our customers include the leading QSR chains, major and independent supermarkets in addition to the food service industry.
What You Will Do
Leading your team in safe work practices with a quality based mindset, duties will include (but are not limited to);
- Demonstrate safe work methodology
- Facilitate daily pre-start meetings and convey any shift handover details and / or site communications
- Set clear direction around daily work plan for the team
- Ensure team conformance to manufacturing performance requirements and take correction action when necessary
- Provide first escalation point for the Process team re: safety, quality, sustainability, reliability and performance issues, engaging other resources as required
- Constructively deal with performance issues in the team, in conjunction with the Area Manager
- Provide regular & ongoing feedback and performance coaching to the team
- Liaise with Production Area Managers, Production Manager and the Maintenance teams (mechanical & electrical) for problem solving and resolution of breakdown & preventative maintenance activities
- Responsibility for line / shift reporting
- Utilising Simplot Work Systems methodology for problem solving, root cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives
- Provide coverage to Process Area team members throughout the shift
- Participate in site Continuous Improvement (CI) activities
About You
Demonstrating your people leadership skills within a manufacturing (or related) environment, you will possess the following skill set & attributes;
- A 100% commitment to safety, health and wellbeing in the workplace
- A sound understanding and working knowledge of the Lean Manufacturing methodology (essential)
- Qualifications / certifications in food processing or competitive manufacturing will be highly regarded
- Demonstrated operating knowledge of fixed plant food processing equipment and machinery
- Possess people leadership skills with a focus on in-person engagement, and a willingness to guide people & their performance
- Strong time management skills
- Ability & confidence to facilitate meetings
- Availability to work 12.2 hour shifts across a 4:4 day / night rotating roster
- Show strong attention to detail, with ability to follow standard work documentation
- Be driven to engage in personal development opportunities
- Possess an intermediate level of PC skills using the Windows OS
- Willingness to undergo a pre-employment medical incl. urine base drug & alcohol screening
