Newmont Tanami is on Aboriginal freehold land 540km northwest of Alice Springs. It is a long-life, low-cost, world-class asset in a core Newmont region. The Tanami Expansion 2 project, aims to extend the mine life beyond 2040, investing in a hoisting shaft which will increase the production of the underground mine from 2.6 Mtpa to 3.2 Mtpa. Both the successful exploration within the underground operation and implementation of the first Tanami Expansion has laid the foundation to further develop the operation to remain a major contributor to the Newmont portfolio. A fully equipped camp is located 40km from the site offering leisure facilities for those flying in from Perth, Brisbane, Alice Springs or Darwin.

In this Role
Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, as a Diesel Fitter at Tanami, you will play a key role in our dynamic team. In this position, you will apply your expertise within our mobile maintenance department to maintain and repair our mobile mining fleet and ancillary equipment. Your duties will involve diagnosing and addressing mechanical and electrical faults, as well as performing scheduled maintenance to ensure the continued efficiency and reliability of our fleet.
You will work with a modern fleet, including CAT load and haul machines, Sandvik drills, Normet rigs, and other ancillary machinery. Your responsibilities will also include conducting inspections and maintaining accurate records and documentation. Additionally, you will ensure all work is performed safely and in line with company policies and procedures, collaborating closely with the wider maintenance team to enhance equipment performance and availability.
About You
- A Cert III Australian trade qualification as a Diesel Fitter or equivalent is required.
- Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills to effectively identify and address equipment issues.
- Knowledge of CAT heavy mobile mining equipment, particularly within underground hard rock mining, is highly regarded.
- Desired certifications include Working at Heights, Dogging, EWP, and Forklift competencies.
- The ability to work both independently and as part of a team, with a strong focus on safety and a proactive approach to risk management, is essential.
