About the role :

As the City’s Environment Officer, you will have the opportunity to deliver a wide range of strategic projects and initiatives to support the City’s strategic objectives, with an overall aim to improve the environmental performance of the City and our community.

Key responsibilities will include :

  • Planning and implementing projects which improve habitat and connectivity across a diverse range of landscapes including parks, bushland and foreshore reserves.
  • Coordinating community events, workshops and programs with an environmental and sustainability focus
  • Liaising with community environment groups and facilitating endorsed citizen-science programs.
  • Coordinating the City’s efforts to meet environmental targets identified in the Environment and Sustainability Strategy and subsidiary action plans.

We are looking for a motivated individual with experience delivering a range of environment and sustainability initiatives, and possession of a relevant tertiary qualification in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Natural Area Management or related field.

Other key skills and experience you will require:

  • Experience developing, implementing and reporting on a range of environment and sustainability projects, initiatives and programs.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with a wide range of stakeholders, including government, industry and the wider community.
  • Ability to research and analyse environmental issues, prepare reports and make recommendations on alternative solutions.
  • Experience in preparing funding submissions, obtaining grants and managing grant projects and acquittals.
  • Good written communication skills including the ability to develop Council reports, memorandums and other formal correspondence.
  • A high level of organisational, administrative and project management skills with the ability to effectively plan and deliver on multiple priorities to meet strict deadlines.
